Vilnius University extends the registration deadline for the Open Readings 2022 International Conference

Vilnius University invites Arqus students to the 65th international conference for students of physics and natural sciences “Open Readings 2022”, which will be held online from 15th to 18th March 2022.

Registration has just been extended and will be open until 1st February. All participants will have an opportunity to take part in oral and poster sessions presenting on an extensive range of topics. 

Each year, enthusiastic and curious students gather to share their ideas, present their work and hear more about science from world-class speakers. Annually, speakers are invited from all over the world to share their knowledge on topics that they had been working on.

This year, lecturers will give an oral presentation in quantum physics, solid-state physics, laser physics, microbiology and organic optoelectronics. Even though this year the conference will be held online, the experience will still be memorable and worth it.

One of the invited speakers is Professor John Dudley from the University of Franche – Comte, Besançon, France. During the conference, the professor will share advances in nonlinear optics, the development of the latest techniques in medical diagnostics, and the detection of extra-solar planets. John Dudley received many awards including the SPIE President’s Award and the OSA Hopkins Leadership.

Another speaker, Ronald Hanson (Delft University of Technology, Netherlands), will talk about the fields of quantum networks and discuss the first multi-node network wired by quantum entanglement, based on optically connected solid-state chips, including the first primitive network protocols. In his relatively short career, Hanson has already received several prestigious prizes, such as the Ammodo KNAW Award and the Huibregtsen Award for Excellence in Science and Society.

Participants will hear from Milda Pučetaitė who is a spectroscopy expert specializing in material characterization with a particular interest in natural sciences, and Mantas Šimėnas who specializes in electron paramagnetic resonance, phase transformations, and Monte Carlo simulations. Lecturer Kasper Moth-Poulsen will introduce efficient energy storage systems including new ways to improve solar spectrum match and energy storage time. A scientist from the University of Münster, Ursula Wurstbauer, will also present her work on elementary excitations and optoelectronic properties of van der Waals layered nanostructures as transition metal dichalcogenides and their heterostructures as well as many-body phenomena of trapped indirect excitons and fractional quantum Hall systems.

Participants of the conference will have an opportunity to hear from Luisa Torsi (University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy). Her main scientific contributions are in the fields of advanced materials and electronic devices mostly employed for sensing applications. Luisa Torsi has won numerous significant accolades over her career, including notching up several firsts as a woman in science. Participation is free of charge.
